About me
I am an independent mathematics tutor based in Wilmslow, offering one-to-one tuition locally, across the UK and internationally online.
I have been tutoring mathematics full time for seventeen years, working with hundreds of students.
My experience includes thousands of hours of face-to-face tuition and thousands of hours of online tuition.
I teach students at lower-secondary, GCSE and IGCSE, A-level Maths and Further Maths, and IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA) at SL and HL. But my work has never felt only like delivering content. The best tuition is relational. It depends on trust, attention, honesty and the gradual process of helping a student feel more able to engage with the subject in front of them.
Why I tutor
Students come to mathematics with very different experiences.
Some are anxious. Some are ambitious. Some are capable but unsure why their results do not yet reflect what they can do. Some have learned to stay quiet, avoid certain topics or treat every mistake as evidence that they are not “good at maths.”
I want students to experience something different.
I want them to feel that mathematics is not simply a judgement placed upon them, but a subject they can begin to understand, question and use. Results matter, and I take them seriously, but I also care about the student who reaches those results: whether they feel more confident, more articulate and more willing to think for themselves.
Some of the most rewarding moments in tuition are not dramatic. A student asks a question they would once have avoided. They explain an idea clearly. They notice a mistake in their own work — or in mine. They begin to trust that their thoughts are worth saying aloud.
Those moments matter because they show a student becoming more active in their own learning.

A conscientious tutor
I care about doing this work carefully.
One-to-one tuition carries a particular responsibility. A student is giving me their attention, often at a point when they feel uncertain, pressured or exposed. A family is trusting me to support something important.
I try to honour that by being attentive, prepared and responsive. I listen closely to how a student explains an idea. I look for the small signs of understanding or uncertainty. I choose questions carefully. I adjust the level of support as the student’s confidence and knowledge develop.
My aim is to help students make real progress without making mathematics feel smaller, colder or more mechanical than it needs to be.

Experience and academic background
My academic background gives me a deep and fluent knowledge of the subject I teach.
I hold a First Class Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, awarded in 2009. During my degree, I scored a perfect 100 in two papers and achieved First Class standard across all Finals papers. I was twice awarded the Antony Nathan Prize for outstanding examination performance, in both Honour Moderations and Finals.
Before university, I received Top Candidate recognition from my exam board for my results in A-level Mathematics, A-level Further Mathematics and GCSE Statistics.
I am proud of those achievements, but they are not the whole story of good tutoring. Subject knowledge matters because it allows me to explain flexibly, create suitable questions, respond to unexpected ideas and support students at depth. But effective tuition also depends on patience, judgement, humour and the ability to meet the student in front of you.

I am based in Wilmslow and offer local in-person tuition where travel arrangements are practical. I also work online with students across the UK and internationally, where the curriculum, time zone and student’s needs are a suitable fit.
Whether tuition is in person or online, I want the work to feel personal, purposeful and carefully adapted to the individual student.
