Online tuition allows me to work with students across the UK and internationally, where the curriculum, time zone and student’s needs are a suitable fit.
It can be especially useful for students who need specialist support at GCSE, IGCSE, A-level Maths, Further Maths or IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (AA), but are not within practical travelling distance for face-to-face lessons.

How online lessons work
Online tuition is most effective when the student is actively involved throughout the session.
I teach from a dedicated desktop setup with a large monitor, graphics tablet and stylus, professional microphone and HD webcam. Zoom is used for shared whiteboard work, document viewing and screen-sharing, allowing us to move naturally between explanation, written methods, examples, diagrams, past-paper questions and the student’s own ideas.
Students with a tablet and stylus can co-annotate in real time, adding their own working directly to the shared space. Students without this setup can still participate fully by explaining their ideas aloud, asking questions and directing what we explore together on the board.
The session remains a dialogue. Rather than simply watching me demonstrate methods, students are asked to think, explain, try ideas, write solutions where possible, answer questions and reflect on their reasoning.
Lesson notes or shared work are saved and sent promptly after the session, so students can revisit the material at their convenience.

Good online tuition depends on close attention.
I listen carefully to how a student talks through a question, where they hesitate, what they write, what they avoid and which ideas are beginning to connect. The shared whiteboard makes it possible to build solutions together, annotate diagrams, correct misconceptions and preserve a clear record of the work.
Online teaching also makes it easy to bring suitable questions, diagrams, documents or past-paper material onto the shared screen. I can generate new examples live on the whiteboard, adapting them to the student’s response as the session develops.
The technology supports the lesson, but it does not replace the relationship. The student still needs to feel seen, heard and involved.

What students need
For online tuition, students need a reliable internet connection and a quiet place to work.
A tablet and stylus can make co-annotation especially interactive, but they are not essential. Students can participate fully by explaining their reasoning, dictating steps, asking questions and discussing ideas as we build the work together on screen.
The aim is to make the technology support the lesson rather than dominate it.

Online tuition can work well for students who need regular weekly or fortnightly support, short-term examination preparation, holiday tuition, or focused help with particular topics.
Understanding, confidence and results online
Students can ask questions, explore misconceptions, work through examples, practise written solutions, develop exam technique and build confidence in the same careful way as in face-to-face tuition.
The work is not simply about covering material. It is about helping the student understand more clearly, communicate more accurately and feel more able to engage with mathematics.
